Relikc - Press Pack

Biography

Relikc’s roots date back to when the members were still in school in their early teens. Having performed together in various permutations of bands and line-ups, the founding members eventually gravitated towards each other in 2007. During the first few years, Relikc focused mostly on being present in the local live music scene. Along the way they also periodically wrote, recorded and released a number of original songs which were released as singles, as well as some music videos. Whilst the members were having the time of their lives playing gigs and large-scale festivals, they always knew they wanted to write and release more original music.

In 2015, Relikc released a four-track EP titled “It’s Not Misspelt”, a comedic title, taking a jab at the unconventional spelling of the band name, Relikc. The EP contained a number of songs that they had been saving for a future album, however, the members soon realized that they had grown from their school years, and their writing style had matured towards a more refined and consistent genre. They decided it was best to release the songs as an EP and start over with a totally fresh outlook. Three music videos were also released to the public alongside the EP, keeping the band busy for most of the year.

L-għeruq ta’ Relikc imorru lura ghaż-żmien meta l-membri tal-band kienu għadhom l-iskola sekondarja. Wara li daqqew flimkien f’diversi bands u line-ups oħra, il-membri fundaturi ngħaqdu formalment bħala Relikc fl-2007. Matul l-ewwel ftit snin, Relikc iffukat primarjamant fuq il-preżenza tagħha fix-xena tal-mużika live. Tul dan iż-żmien huma wkoll kitbu, rrekordjaw u harġu perjodikament numru ta’ diski oriġinali bħala singles, kif ukoll xi music videos. Però, filwaqt li l-membri kienet l-hena tagħhom idoqqu f’kunċerti u festivals kbar lokali, dejjem kienu jafu li riedu jiktbu u jeżebixxu aktar mużika oriġinali.

Fl-2015, Relikc ħarġet EP ta' erba' tracks bl-isem "It's Not Misspelt", titlu komiku b’referenza għall-ortografija mhux konvenzjonali tal-isem tal-band ‘Relikc’. L-EP kien fih numru ta’ diski li l-band kienet qed tiġma għal album futur, madanakollu, il-membri ma damux ma ndunaw li huma bħala mużiċisti kienu kibru u nbiddlu minn zmien is-snin skolastiċi tagħhom, u l-istil tal-kitba tagħhom kien immatura f’ġeneru aktar raffinat u konsistenti. Għaldaqstant, huma ddeċidew li l-aħjar pass kien li joħorġu d-diski bħala EP, u jerġgħu jibdew kapitolu ġdid b'perspettiva kompletament differenti. Tliet music videos ġew ukoll imnedija għall-pubbliku flimkien mal-EP, u dan kollu żamm il-band attiva għal ħafna minn dik is-sena.

THE CODE OF ANTICS - ALBUM

Late 2016, the members went into an intense period of songwriting, exploring their roots of funk, soul and pop in order to write the songs for their debut album, “The Code Of Antics”. You could say that the members derived their inspiration from what they enjoyed doing most, that is, giving audiences a good time during their live performances with fun and dance-worthy songs. Keeping this goal in mind, ideas were bounced off each other and various songs written, until a list of the ten best songs were selected from the “pile”.

Relikc sought the help of Kenny D'Ugo (Beehive Productions) for the production, recording and mixing of the album, which was done at Jubox Recording House, a studio owned by Relikc's guitarist, Luke Grech. Finally, the tracks were mastered by the renowned Geoff Pesche at Abbey Road Studios, in London. Interestingly, the album features a line-up of a whopping 13 musicians, including a horn section, additional singers, and a percussionist.
